Places for pics?

I seem to have been on istockphotos for ages this evening and I'm not getting very far finding the pics I want. In fact I can't figure why on earth it keeps coming up with half of them, given the search words I'm putting in.

Still, some of the descriptions make me laugh. I just put in a search for 'choice' and it brought up a series of photos that are various combinations of 'sexy beautiful business woman'. In fact that's the exact title of one of them. Not quite sure what it's got to do with 'choice'. The mind boggles.

Anyone have any other recommendations for sites providing decent, low cost photography?  I know Timm isn't a fan of some of these sites...

ACtually, I really like iStockPhoto.com - it's cheap and good quality - I'm just not a fan of classic stock photos showing zombies with cell phones in front of white boards.

Sue, give Big Stock Photo a try and also don't discount Google Images (click on images under the Google logo and search as normal).

Both have been increasingly useful for me over the last year or so.

Thanks Timm - loved your blog post on this subject so thought it was worth letting other people know about it too!

Alex, I find google images really helpful, but I'm always a bit worried about copyright. There's generally a statement saying 'photos may be subject to copyright', and given that I'm generally using photos in client presentations or training, I'm careful to the point of paranoia about not handing over copyright material used without permission.

Is there an easy way of telling which google photos are OK to use?

Alex Manchester

Not 100% sure on the copyright on Google Images but in the case of presentations I think you're right, it would be best to be careful unless you're using really generic ones.

Bigstockphoto has near-identical rules to iStockphoto though, and there's a massive selection on there.
